"YOUTH IN ACTION" PROGRAMME - EU EDUCATION AND CULTURE DG

Eine Kooperation zwischen MIK und Urban Flow/Bratislava, eingereicht im April 09, beauftragt im Juli 09, Umsetzung 2010

PREVIEW SEASON ONE

“Po Stadl Biskup Au” stands for a process of re-mapping two suburban areas of Bratislava and Vienna and all that in-between... The two areas we are targeting are Bratislavas suburb of Podunajske Biskupice and the Viennese neighbourhood of Stadlau. At the margin of their respective city geographically, socially as well as culturally, both suburbian areas show diverse morphological patterns. And there is the river Danube, flowing... connecting?

“Po Stadl Biskup Au” is a joint project between MIK22 and “urban flow” Bratislava.

From “how we found each other” to “Po Stadl Biskup Au”

Speaking about our collective “urban flow” Bratislava, during the recent years we have already been active in some projects dealing with art, participation and urban issues. Some months ago we got in touch with the people from MIK22 and immediately we found mutual interest, which soon became the base to develop a project idea together. It was soon decided that the project should geographically and socially focus on the Viennese suburb of Stadlau and Podunajske Biskupice, as the “big unknown” of Bratislava. We also found quite some similarities between these areas, for example the phenomenon “urban sprawl meets historically grown structures”, concrete panel blocks marking the skylines and also a railway track connecting Erzherzog-Karl-Strasse with Podunajske Biskupice. In addition to that we see and abundance of yet hidden urban potentials, stories and connections in and between these areas, what made them the subjects of our project idea “Po Stadl Biskup Au”. Besides that we are quite tired of most of the cultural and artistic attempts to connect Vienna and Bratislava, the majority of which also turned out to be anything but fruitful and sustainable. This added to our belief, that its about time come up with some fresh, creative cooperation, far off the beaten tracks...
